About Thermalite NZ made shutters
Thermalite Shutters have the look and feel of wood with several major advantages. Made in our factory in Takanini to give the best lead times in New Zealand.
Made from dense polymer foam, Thermalite is a solid, non-toxic synthetic material. Being 100% made from renewable synthetic material, no natural resources are destroyed in the manufacturing process.
Thermalite is water resistant, fire retardant and provides over 2-3 times the insulation of wood and vinyl shutters making it the ideal choice for both internal and external applications such as bathrooms, balconies, kitchens or anywhere around the home.
The superb painted finish on the Thermalite Shutters ensures they won’t yellow like other shutters.
Insulates three times better than traditional timber shutters.
Exclusive ultraclear mechanism means you don’t have any visible bar controlling the shutters.
Thermalite Componentry/Parts
Please see photos below of each part of the shutters.
The 89mm thick blade is dense with aluminum re-enforcements to stop bowing.
The parts that turn the blades are hidden inside the style of the shutter.
The fixed mid rail is the same material and 83mm wide.
The T post is 26mm wide that sits between shutters so a middle shutter can hinge off it.
Our styles/frames are beaded.
The top rail has a lip, so the blades close onto it nicely.
The Herline hinges are white to match.
There are strong magnet catches at the back of the shutters on the top and bottom.

How much space do I need?
So, with our most popular Z frame sitting inside your window frame:
You need 60mm of clearance for the blades to not touch anything when opening.
If there are latches/handles in the window, just note that the blades will start turning around 65mm from the outside edges. Also if there are latches on the bottom, your shutters bottom rail will be roughly 100mm high so the blades won’t be hitting any latches.

L frame sitting inside your window frame:
You need 60mm of clearance for the blades to not touch anything when opening.

Outside Fit L frame:
You need 10mm of clearance to not hit anything with the blades.

Measuring and installing

We are licensed by www.decorblinds.com.au to manufacture Thermalite shutters.
The first step is to make sure you are measuring correctly. Getting a diagonal measurement is important to make sure your window is square.
For an inside fit (Recess) shutter – please see this PDF
For an outside fit – screwed into the architrave – please see this PDF

Decor blinds has a great video on how to install. Please note that the video is slightly outdated as Decor has changed a few parts.
First part different is the Magnet catches – These are now a smaller dome shaped and the fit on the inside of the light block of the frame. Sitting flush on the bottom with one screw.
The second part is if you have more than one panel in your window, we have labeled our shutters going from left to right (A – B – C – D)
Here is a PDF version of install instructions.
